Hesperaloe parviflora (Red Yucca, Hummingbird Aloe)

(Aloe yucciflora, Yucca parviflora)

Red Yucca is an evergreen succulent native to Texas and northern Mexico. Despite its common name it is not related to the Yucca, but more closely to Aloes. It produces tall coral-red flower spikes in summer. It is toxic to animals, but the leaves do not have spines. Time in trade in Australia is unknown. It is a popular garden plant in drier parts of North America. There is no evidence of it naturalising outside its native range or becoming invasive anywhere. Viable seed production is dependent on a specialist pollinator.
