The Gardening Responsibly Scheme is a free, voluntary, industry-led program to promote the supply and development of Certified Gardening Responsibly plants.
The Scheme was officially launched in September 2022 and all relevant businesses that join the Scheme receive promotional and marketing support by way of a comprehensive marketing kit.
Scheme membership is open to greenlife industry businesses including:
- Landscape architects/designers
- Landscapers
- Plant breeders
- Plant brokers
- Retail nurseries
- Wholesale nurseries

How Does the Scheme Work?
To join the Gardening Responsibly Scheme your business must complete an application form and be willing to pledge its commitment to breeding, supplying or promoting at least one low-risk plant.
Once we have received your request to join, our friendly team will review your application and be in touch to confirm your acceptance into the Scheme.
We will guide you through the next steps to check your stocklist or plant palette to label or promote your low-risk plants. Your business will also be promoted in our online Find a Supplier directory and to our broad range of audiences.
Scheme Management and Transparency
Once your business is a member of the Scheme, our team will regularly check in with you to ensure you are getting the most out of your membership, as well as continuing to operate in line with the objectives and terms and conditions of the Scheme.
Members are required to regularly check their plant lists to ensure they are using the eco-label appropriately, and stay up to date with new plant assessments and changes to stock affected by plant updates.
All plant assessment data is freely available through our Research Portal to ensure members can stay up to date and consumers can be sure about their purchase.
Intentional misuse of the eco-label will result in removal from the Scheme and possible legal action.

Our business is committed to the Gardening Responsibly Scheme and to gardening responsibly.
Whether growing, selling, buying or installing plants, we will garden responsibly by promoting at least one plant with a low risk of invasiveness.
We will communicate with staff and customers about the value of gardening responsibly and advocate for the selection, growth and use of low-risk ornamental plants to champion beautiful gardens and healthy Australian landscapes.
