Handroanthus impetiginosus (Pink Trumpet Tree)
(Tabebuia impetiginosa, Tabebuia palmeri Rose)Handroanthus impetiginosus, Pink Trumpet Tree, is a deciduous tree to 15m native to Central and South America from northern Mexico to Argentina. It is not known how long it has been in the ornamental plant trade but it has naturalised in northern NSW. Pink Trumpet Tree is not known to be invasive anywhere in Australia or elsewhere globally. The species native range has a high degree of climate similarity to Australia. Pink Trumpet Tree has several medicinal uses but excessive use can lead to nausea, vomiting, dizziness and diarrhoea. Pink Trumpet Tree can spread via root suckers or cuttings. From July to September abundant vibrant pink, trumpet shaped, flowers are produced on the tree, after the leaves have dropped. The fruit contains lightweight seeds that are dispersed via wind.
