Ficus platypoda (Rock Fig)

Ficus platypoda (Rock Fig) is an evergreen shrub or tree growing to 10m. It grows as a lithophyte (attached to rocks). Young twigs, fruit and leaf undersides are covered in white hairs. Ficus platypoda is native to northern Australia (NT and WA) and is also found in Qld. It is not considered invasive anywhere outside its natural range in Australia or overseas. The fruit is pollinated by the native fig wasp (Pleistodontes cuneatus). The fruit is edible when ripe and soft. Time in trade is unknown, but Rock Fig is a recommended species for bonsai.
