Corymbia ficifolia (Red-flowering Gum, WA Flowering Gum)

(Eucalyptus ficifolia)

Red-flowering Gum (Corymbia ficifolia) is a small evergreen tree native to south-west Western Australia. It is popular for its showy flowers of various shades of red, which appear in late summer to early autumn. Also called WA Flowering Gum, it is a popular parent for several cultivars with different heights and flower colours. It prefers sandy soils in a Mediterranean climate, but grafting enables cultivars to be grown in more humid areas on heavier soils in NSW. The species has been in trade since 1871. Although possibly naturalised in SA, there is no record of it naturalising in other states. There is no record of it being invasive anywhere.
