Banksia ericifolia (Heath-leaved Banksia, Wadanggari)

Banksia ericifolia (Heath-leaved Banksia) is a large perennial shrub, native to NSW. It grows in two separate regions of Central and Northern New South Wales east of the Great Dividing Range. Heath-leaved Banksia can grow to 6m but is more often 1–2 m in coastal areas. It has large reddish-orange flower spikes. Banksia ericifolia has been in trade since 1851 and is widely grown in Australian gardens on the east coast, and is used to a limited extent in the cut flower industry. Heath-leaved Banksia plays host to a wide variety of pollinators and is a vital source of nectar in autumn, when other flowers are scarce. Banksia ericifolia reproduces by seed and depends on fire for regeneration.
