Xerochrysum bracteatum (Golden Everlasting, Bracted Strawflower)

(Bracteantha bracteata, Helichrysum bracteatum, Helichrysum chrysanthum)

This compact perennial shrub, which grows 10-120 cm tall, is native to the Australian open woodland and forest on sandy or sandy loam soils. It is unknown how long it has been in the ornamental trade in Australia, and it has naturalised outside of its native range to WA. This species has been introduced to several other countries, but it is not known to have become invasive anywhere. It has long lasting blooms which are attractive for cultivation and has been developed into several hybrids and cultivars. It reproduces via seeds.
