Viola hederacea (Native Violet; Australian violet)

(Erpetion hederaceum)

This herb is native to most of Australia (SA, Qld, NSW, ACT, Vic and Tas), as well as New Zealand North Island. It is unknown how long it has been in the plant trade for but it has not become naturalised outside its native range in Australia. It is naturalised in New Zealand and an agricultural weed in Australia according to one source, but more evidence is needed to consider the species as invasive. It can reproduce and spread vegetatively, it also produces seeds. Native violet flowers for three months a year (Feb-Apr), with an attractive violet colour.
