Rubus rosifolius (Native Raspberry)

(Rubus commersonii, Rubus eglanteria)

This species is a shrub native to eastern Australia, the Himalayas and East Asia. Native Raspberry is naturalised in northern Australia and has been in the Australian plant trade since 1870. It has also become invasive overseas in United States of America, South Africa, Tanzania, India, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Brazil and Mauritius. This species can invade the understorey of rainforests and form dense thickets overcrowding and outcompeting native plants. Native Raspberry can reproduce by seeds which are dispersed by birds and mammals, and vegetatively by suckers. Native Raspberry is a scrambling shrub that produces edible fruits.
