Lomandra longifolia (Spiny-headed Mat Rush, Common Lomandra)

( Xerotes longifolia)

This perennial grass-like species is native to all Australian states and territories except WA and NT. It is unknown how long it has been in the plant trade for, but it is potentially becoming a problem in WA according to one source. Is not invasive anywhere in the world. It reproduces by seed and also vegetatively by clump division if damaged. This fast growing grass-like plant has long strappy green leaves. It produces clusters of cream-yellow flowers that attract native insects. Spiny-headed Mat Rush will thrive in most conditions.
