Kunzea baxteri (Scarlet Kunzea)

(Callistemon hainesii; Callistemon microstachyus; Calothamnus baxteri )

This shrub is endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. The species has been in the ornamental trade for more than 50 years (since 1964) and has become naturalised outside its native range in WA, and is considered doubtfully naturalised in VIC. There is no evidence of impacts for the species anywhere else in the world. It grows in sandy soils and granite outcrops and hills and can reach a maximum height of 1 to 4 m. Flowers are large red bottlebrushes that attract honeyeaters and mammals.
