This species has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia since 1851, and several cultivars have been developed. A single source claims Purple Coral-pea has naturalised beyond its native range in Australia and New Zealand, but the species is not considered invasive anywhere in the world. This species reproduces via seeds. Purple Coral-pea produces vibrant purple flowers in winter and is a hardy plant.
