Hakea salicifolia subsp. salicifolia (Willow-leaved Hakea)

This small perennial tree grows 2–5 m tall and lives up to 20-40 years. It is native to eastern Australia and has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia since 1969. Willow-leaved Hakea has become naturalised outside of its native range in Australia in Victoria, where is it recognised as an environmental weed, and South Australia. Willow-leaved Hakea is invasive overseas in New Zealand and potentially invasive in France, Spain, Portugal, South Africa and India. This species can form dense pure stands due to its prolific seed production and the low dispersal distance of its winged seeds (1-5m). This species reproduces via germinating seeds only. Climate similarity matching indicates suitable climate in other regions of Australia.
