Erythrina vespertilio (Bat's-wing Cork-tree, Bean Tree)

(Corallodendron vespertilio, Erythrina biloba)

This native Australian tree, which grows to 5–12 m high, is found on all Australian mainland states except Victoria (i.e. WA, NT, SA, Qld, NSW). It grows mainly in open woodlands but extends to arid areas and rainforest margins. It is not known to have naturalised outside its native range nor to have become invasive anywhere. Propagation is from seed or cuttings, with seeds needing no pretreatment for germination. Culturally it is an important species being used for its medicinal properties and to make woomeras, coolamons and shields.
