Dillwynia hispida (Red Parrot-pea; Downy parrot-pea)

(Dillwynia hispida var. glabripes, Dillwynia hispida var. laevifolia)

This small shrub (0.5 m) is endemic to Australia; native to South Australia, New South Wales, and Victoria. It is found in heath, woodland, forest and mallee scrubland. Although it is unknown how long it has been in the ornamental trade, the species has not become naturalised outside its native range, nor considered invasive anywhere in the world. It is an erect shrub species with orange and red flowers from September to November. The fruits are very small pods about 4 mm long that carry one seed each.
