Dichondra repens (Kidney Weed; Dichondra, Yilibili (D'harawal))

(Dichondra micrantha)

This perennial herb is native to Australia, Mascarenes and New Zealand. It is unknown how long it has been in the ornamental trade, but it has not become naturalised outside its native range. It has naturalised in Japan, China, the USA (California) and Brazil. However, there is no evidence of this species being invasive anywhere in the world. It has characteristic kidney shaped leaves that vary from green to grey. It produces very small yellow flowers. It reproduces vegetatively with creeping stems that root at the nodes, making it an ideal ground cover.
