Dianella caerulea (Dianella, Blue Flax-lily)

(Dianella coerulea)

This clumping perennial herb can grow to 75 cm tall and is native to Australia (QLD, NSW, VIC, and TAS). While it is unknown how long it has been in the ornamental trade in Australia it has not become naturalised nor invasive anywhere. It produces blue flowers with yellow stamens followed by blue/purple edible berries (eaten cooked or raw) which are dispersed by birds. It reproduces both via seeds and rhizomes. Blue Flax-lily is a hardy plant and will grow well in most gardens.
