This shrub, which grows to 0.5-2 m tall, is native throughout Australia. It has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia since 1851 and has become naturalised or invasive. Yellow and red/brown flowers occur in late winter to early summer. The leaves have sharp tips and the branches end in spines. Gorse Bitter-pea is known to attract insects and birds.
