This medium sized tree is native to littoral rainforests in eastern and northern Australia. Its natural distribution ranges from Seven Mile Beach in NSW (34.8° S) up to Queensland, northern Australia and New Guinea. Overseas it has been recorded as a weed of the natural environment, a cultivation escapee, an invasive species [USA (primarily Florida and Hawaii), India] and declared a noxious (declared) weed (USA).
