Citrus australasica (Australian Finger Lime, Caviar Lime)

(Citrus australasica var. sanguinea)

This native shrub or small tree is endemic to Australia, native to Queensland and New South Wales. It is unknown how long it has been in the ornamental trade for but it has not become naturalised outside its native range, nor recorded as invasive anywhere in the world. It is a thorny understorey species from coastal areas that can reach 2-7 m in height. It produces white flowers followed by edible fruits, which have become popular as bushfood. Finger lime is thought to have the widest range of fruit color variation within any Citrus species. It is the parent of many hybrid cultivars.
