Callistemon citrinus (Crimson Bottlebrush)

(Melaleuca citrina)

This perennial shrub native to New South Wales and Victoria is naturalised in Western Australia as well as in Victoria outside its native range. It has been in the Australian plant trade since 1850 and it is widely cultivated worldwide. It is recorded as invasive in South Africa and Mexico but more evidence of impacts is needed. The fruiting capsules are woody and remain unopened until the plant, or the part bearing them dies. Callistemon ‘White Anzac’ is a naturally occurring form of Callistemon citrinus.
