Brachychiton rupestris (Queensland Bottletree, Narrow leaved Bottletree)

(Delabechea rupestris, Brachychiton rupestre)

This semi-deciduous succulent tree can grow to 10–25 m tall. It is native to central QLD and northern NSW. It has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia since 1850 and has not become naturalised or invasive anywhere in the world. It is a culturally important species that can sustain people and animals in times of drought and food scarcity. Queensland Bottletree has a distinctive bulbous trunk, similar to a Boab, which supports drought tolerance.
