Brachychiton acerifolius (Flame Tree, Illawarra Flame Tree)

This large deciduous tree, which can grow to 30-35m tall, is native to Australia and can be found in well-developed coastal rainforests from southern NSW to far north QLD. Illawarra Flame Tree is known for a spectacular red floral display following winter leaf fall. In Australia, it has been in the ornamental plant trade since 1843 and has become naturalised beyond its native range in NSW and possibly in south-eastern SA. It is also considered invasive on Lord Howe Island. It has become naturalised in Portugal, Botswana, India and Bermuda, but is not considered invasive.
