This tall palm tree grows up to 30 m tall. The native range of this species is north-east and central-east Queensland, from the Melville Range in Cape York Peninsula to south of Gladstone. It is not considered invasive anywhere in the world, but has become naturalised in Hawaii, USA. Reproduction is via fresh seeds which only germinate within a temperature range of 20-30°C and are sensitive to desiccation and high temperature, with seedling inhibition at 35°C. It is unknown how long this species has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia.
