Themeda triandra ‘Mingo’ (Kangaroo Grass 'Mingo')

This native cultivar differs from its parent Themeda triandra by its low spreading habit and blue-green, wider, foliage. It is a stable cultivar which obtained Plant Breeder’s Rights in 1998. The parent is native to Australia as well as Africa and part of Asia, and has not become naturalised in Australia outside its native range. The parent is considered invasive in New Zealand. Large red brown spikelet’s form on the branched stems above the foliage, and seeds form within the spikelet’s. Like the parent, the seeds of the cultivar are edible and can be ground into a flour.
