Zamia furfuracea (Cardboard Plant, Cardboard Cycad)

(Zamia furfuracea var. trewii)

Zamia furfuracea is a hardy cycad shrub that is endemic to a single location in Veracruz state, Mexico. It is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical areas all over the world. There is no data showing how long it has been in ornamental trade in Australia. It is a slow-growing plant that has been reported as naturalised only in the United States, and not invasive anywhere in the world. There is no climate similarity between its native range and NSW. The entire plant, and especially the seeds are said to be poisonous.
