Yucca gigantea (Spineless Yucca, Izote)

(Yucca elephantipes)

Spineless Yucca is a succulent shrub or small tree native to Mexico and Central America. It is reported as naturalised in Ecuador and El Salvador, though there is no evidence of it being invasive anywhere. It has been traded in Australia since 1906 and is not naturalised. It is heavily reliant on a specific pollinator and hence does not produce seed outside its native range where it primarily spreads by stem fragmentation.
