(Alcantarea imperialis)

Vriesea imperialis is a large soft-wooded perennial-shrub native to high altitude rocky areas in Brazil. There is no evidence that the plant is naturalised or invasive anywhere in the world. It produces vegetatively via offsets at the base of the plant or between the leaves. It takes 9-15 years to flower and flowers only once. Imperial Bromeliad can grow to 1.5 m wide.
