Serissa japonica (Snow Bush, Snowrose)

(Serissa foetida)

This is a subtropical shrub native to parts of India, southern China, Taiwan and Japan. It has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia since 1880 and has not become naturalised. It is highly used as bonsai tree, although foliage and roots have an unpleasant smell if damaged. There is no evidence of the species being naturalised or invasive outside its native range. Data on its reproductive biology are scarce. There is a moderate degree of climate similarity between its native range and NSW.
