Naturalised in Australia

Senna multiglandulosa (Buttercup Bush; Glandular Senna; Downy Senna)

This perennial shrub or small tree is native from Mexico to Guatemala and parts of South America. It has been in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1851 and has become naturalised in SA, VIC, NSW and NT. Although the species is noted as a weed of the natural environment there is no evidence of its impacts in Australia. Similarly, there is one source that mentions S. multiglandulosa as being invasive in South Africa and another source in New Zealand, but no evidence of impacts has been found. Many of its congeners are environmental weeds in parts of south-eastern Australia. Reproduction is by seed. There is a relatively high degree of climate similarity between its home range and parts of NSW.
