Senecio rowleyanus (String of Pearls)

(Curio rowleyanus)

This succulent groundcover, commonly grown in hanging pots, is native to South Africa’s Cape Provinces. There is no evidence this species has naturalised, or become invasive, outside its native range. Reproduction is via seed and vegetative means. The plant’s long trailing stems take root when they touch the soil and are capable of forming dense mats. The light, fluffy seeds may be dispersed long distances by wind. String of Pearls is mildly toxic and no parts of the plant should be consumed by children or pets.
