Quercus robur (English Oak)

This large deciduous tree is native to Europe and has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia since 1817. The species has since become naturalised in NSW and possibly in VIC where it is listed as a minor environmental weed in Knox City. Although noted as having some environmental impacts in the USA, South Africa and Brazil, no evidence of these impacts has been shown. Reproduction is by seed (acorns) that in the species native range is dispersed by small mammals. It can be a full 50 years before the first crop of acorns (seeds) is produced.
