Quercus palustris (Pin Oak, Swamp Oak)

This deciduous tree native is to eastern and central parts of USA. It has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia since 1806 and is among the top 50 most popular ornamental plants. It has been noted as recently naturalised in one location in WA. There is no evidence that the species is invasive anywhere in the world. The species readily hybridises with its close relatives, especially Q. rubra, in its native range. Fruits are inconspicuous and are dispersed by small mammals. There a moderately high degree of climate similarity between its native range and NSW.
