Pyrus ussuriensis (Manchurian Pear, Ussuri Pear)

( Pyrus simonii, Pyrus sinensis)

This deciduous tree is native to China, Korea, Japan and far eastern Russia. It has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia since 1964 and it has become naturalised in that time. It is a popular ornamental plant in Australia. Pyrus ussuriensis is not known to have become invasive anywhere in the world. However, a member of the same genus P. calleryana is noted as invasive in south-eastern USA where the climate is moderately similar to that of NSW. The climate of its home range is also similar to that of some parts on NSW. The species reproduces by seed which are dispersed by animals. Manchurian Pear is a medium size tree that flowers early in spring.
