Photinia serratifolia (Taiwanese Photinia)

This evergreen shrub is native to Asia including southern and central China, Taiwan and the Philippines. The species has naturalised in Australia in SA, NSW and the ACT. There is no evidence Taiwanese Photinia has become invasive in areas outside its native range. Reproduction is via seed. The fleshy berry is dispersed via birds. The leaves of Taiwanese Photinia may be toxic to some animals, due to the presence of cyanogenic glycosides. The species produces white flowers in spring followed by red coloured leaves and fruits in autumn.
