Photinia glabra (Japanese Photinia)

This evergreen shrub is native to southern China, northern Indo-China and Japan. The species has been in ornamental trade since 1851 and is recorded as doubtfully naturalised in QLD, and has likely naturalised in New Zealand. There is no evidence Japanese Photinia has become invasive in areas outside its native range. Reproduction is via seed. The fleshy berry is likely to be dispersed via birds. Japanese Photinia is a suitable hedge or screening plant and has attractive foliage.
