Magnolia stellata (Star Magnolia)

( Buergeria stellata, Magnolia halleana)

This rare tree species is endemic to Tōkai region of Japan. It has been traded in Australia as an ornamental plant since 1890. There is no evidence that the species is naturalised in Australia or that it is invasive anywhere in the world. However, there is some degree of climate similarity between its native range and some parts of NSW. It has been reported as naturalised in the USA. Reproduction is primarily by seed.
