Lonicera hildebrandiana (Giant Burmese Honeysuckle, Giant Honeysuckle)
( Lonicera braceana)This climber is native to Asia including Myanmar, Thailand and China. Despite being in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1930 the species has not naturalised. Burmese Honeysuckle may have naturalised in New Zealand, although it is likely only a casual alien. There is no evidence this species is invasive outside its native range. Reproduction is via seed and vegetative means through stolons and runners. The fruit is a large fleshy berry that is likely dispersed by birds and other animals. A closely related species, Lonicera japonica, is invasive in Australia (including in NSW). Burmese Honeysuckle is a fast grower with large, dark green leaves. In spring and summer it produces fragrant yellow tubular flowers.
