Limonium perezii (Perez's Sea Lavender, Statice)
( Statice perezii)This perennial herb is native to the Canary Islands. The species has been in ornamental trade since 1971 and has naturalised in South Australia. Whilst not invasive in Australia, Perez’s Sea Lavender has invasive behaviour in the United States (California), although there is no evidence of impacts. Reproduction is via seed and vegetatively, through a woody rhizome. Plants may reach reproductive maturity within 3-4 years. After this time, flowers are produced for around 7 months of the year. Two closely related species (Limonium lobatum and L. hyblaeum) are invasive in Australia. Perez’s Seal Lavender is suited to coastal habitats and produces purple and white flowerheads.
