Kalanchoe marmorata (Penwiper)

( Kalanchoe grandiflora, Kalanchoe grandiflora var. angustipetala )

This shrub-like succulent is native to central and eastern Africa. Despite being in ornamental trade in Australia since 1933, the species has not naturalised. There is also no evidence Penwiper has naturalised elsewhere outside its native range, except for India. The seeds, which are very fine and dust-like, are likely wind-dispersed. This species can be easily propagated by a single leaf. All parts of the plant are poisonous. A closely related species, Bryophyllum delagoense (syn. Kalanchoe delagoensis), is highly invasive in Australia and a declared noxious weed in NSW and QLD.
