Juniperus scopulorum (Rocky Mountain Juniper)

(Sabina scopulorum)

This coniferous tree is native to western North America, southwest Canada, and northern Mexico. The species has not naturalised in Australia, despite being in ornamental trade since 1964. Rocky Mountain Juniper has been recorded as naturalised in India. There is no evidence the species is invasive outside its native range. Reproduction is via seed. The fleshy seed cones are primarily distributed by birds, but they may also be dispersed by water and gravity. Juniperus species are mildly toxic, and ingestion may cause minor illnesses, including vomiting and diarrhoea. Adult foliage is scale-like.
