Juniperus chinensis (Chinese Juniper)
This evergreen shrub or small tree is native to China, Japan, Mongolia and the Himalayas. It has been in the ornamental plant trade in Australia since 1850. It is reported to have become naturalised in Australia in NSW and ACT, although other records suggest that this naturalisation is doubtful. There are some parts of NSW with climate similarity to the species’ native range. There are no records from overseas to show that the species has become invasive anywhere. Juniperus chinensis reproduces by seeds that are dispersed by birds. Juniperus chinensis is a member of the Cypress family.
