Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Chinese Hibiscus, China-rose )
( Hibiscus boryanus, Hibiscus festalis)This perennial shrub or small tree is native to east Asia and is widely grown as an ornamental in the tropics. It has been in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1843 and is naturalised in QLD. There is no evidence of the species being invasive anywhere in the world. There is a moderate degree of climate similarity between its native range and some parts of NSW. Other members of the genus are reported to be invasive in some tropical countries. The species reproduces by seed. There are many hybrids and cultivars of this plant. It produces showy pink-red flowers.
