Gordonia axillaris (Fried Egg Plant)

This evergreen shrub or tree is native to China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. There is no evidence the species has naturalised in Australia or elsewhere outside its native range. Fried Egg Plant has been in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1890. Reproduction is via seed. The fruit is a capsule, and the winged seeds are dispersed by wind.
