Gardenia jasminoides (Gardenia, Cape Jasmine )
(Gardenia augusta)This perennial shrub is native to southeast Asia from Bangladesh to southern Japan. It has been in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1803 and has not become naturalised in that time. The species has become naturalised in parts of the USA and South Africa with similar climate to parts of NSW. There are no records of the species becoming invasive anywhere in the world. The species reproduces by seed which are likely dispersed by animals. There is moderate climate similarity between its native range and parts of NSW.
