Fatsia japonica (Aralia; Big-leaf paper plant; Japanese Fatsia)

This evergreen shrub is native to Japan. Despite being in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1861, there is no evidence the species has naturalised. However, Aralia has naturalised in New Zealand. There is no evidence the species is invasive outside its native range. Reproduction is via both vegetative spread (suckers) and seed. This shrub produces large, green glossy foliage with creamy white flowers on long stalks in autumn. The fruit is a fleshy black berry, which is dispersed by birds.
