Dracaena draco (Dragon Tree)

This tree species is native to the Canary Islands and Morocco. Despite being in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1871, the species has not naturalised. There is also no evidence Dragon Tree has naturalised elsewhere outside its native range. The species does not spread vegetatively and is very slow growing. Long bluish-green leaves fan out from the top of regularly spaced branches. Small greenish white flowers are followed by bright orange berries. Seed is not produced until plants are about 10 years old. The fleshy fruit is dispersed by birds.
