Daphne odora (Winter Daphne; Fragrant Daphne; Daphne)

This shrub is native to China and Japan. Despite being in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1843, there is no evidence the species has naturalised in Australia or elsewhere outside its native range. Fragrant Daphne is favoured as an ornamental for its fragrant, showy flowers. The plant produces fleshy berries which are poisonous to humans, domestic animals, pigs and horses; however cultivated plants rarely produce fruit or seed. Winter Daphne does best in cool to temperate climates.
