Cupressus cashmeriana (Kashmir Cypress)

This tree is native to Bhutan in the eastern Himalaya, at altitudes of 1,250–2,800 metres. It is categorised as ‘Near Threatened’ by the IUCN. Kashmir Cypress has been in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1862. There is no evidence the species has naturalised outside its native range. It reproduces is via seed. The cones, which take about 24 months to mature after pollination, open to release the winged seeds.
