Ceanothus thyrsiflorus (Blueblossom, California-lilac)

This perennial shrub is endemic to the western United States (including coastal California and southern Oregon). Despite being in ornamental trade in Australia since 1865, there is no evidence this species has become naturalised. There is also no evidence that Blueblossom is invasive outside its native range. The showy blue flowers produce a dry seed capsule which opens to release the seeds. Germination is triggered by heat, so the seeds may lie dormant in the soil for many years until stimulated by fire.
